August 16, 2022\u2014<\/strong>The Florence Copper Community Foundation (\u201cFoundation\u201d) is pleased to donate $500 to the United Way of Pinal County, supporting their Reading 3rd<\/sup> Grade Initiative \u2013 a program that promotes childhood literacy in Pinal County.<\/p>\n

United Way of Pinal County CEO Allen Villalobos and Development & Marketing Manager Joseph Caruso visited the Florence Copper site on July 11, 2022, to receive the donation. The Reading 3rd<\/sup> Grade Initiative partners with Dolly Parton\u2019s Imagination Library to deliver books to newborns to children five years old who live in Pinal County. The Foundation\u2019s donation will sponsor the purchase of 240 books.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United Way of Pinal County is very thankful for the contribution from the Florence Copper Community Foundation,\u201d said Mr. Caruso. \u201cNinety percent of a child\u2019s brain develops by age 5, and currently only 25 percent of Pinal County third graders are reading proficiently. The Reading by 3rd<\/sup> Grade Initiative is designed to prepare children to enter kindergarten with literary comprehension so they do not fall behind in school.\u201d<\/p>\n
